Is Ha Giang as far away as you think?
Not really — but getting to Ha Giang differs from most other destinations in Vietnam in one respect: Ha Giang has no airport. Wherever you start from, the last leg is always by road. As far as we are concerned, that is good news: the ride up to Ha Giang is already part of the journey.
- FROM HANOI — about 300 km, 6 to 7 hours.
- Sleeper buses and limousines: daily, both daytime and overnight services. Night departures leave Hanoi around 21:00–22:00 and reach Ha Giang city early in the morning — a way to save a day, and the option most of our guests choose so they can start the tour the same morning.
- The route: Highway 2 through Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang, then Ham Yen – Bac Quang – Vi Xuyen. The Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang expressway is under construction and opening section by section, so the journey will get shorter.
- Driving or riding yourself: 7 to 9 hours, depending on your pace and how often you stop. If you ride your own motorbike up from Hanoi, count this leg into your energy budget — 300 km of open road before you even reach the limestone plateau makes for a long day.
- FROM NOI BAI AIRPORT — you do not need to go into Hanoi at all. Buses run directly from Noi Bai to Ha Giang, and Ha Giang Experts can arrange a private transfer from the airport straight up to Ha Giang, or to your hotel in Hanoi, depending on your arrival time.
- FROM HO CHI MINH CITY, DA NANG AND OTHER DISTANT PROVINCES — fly to Noi Bai and continue by road as above. If your flight lands in the afternoon, the overnight bus to Ha Giang is the neatest connection.
- FROM ABROAD — Noi Bai is the gateway. Allow around 8 to 9 hours from landing to arriving in Ha Giang, immigration included.
- FROM SAPA AND LAO CAI — daytime buses take 6 to 7 hours, either via Bac Ha and Xin Man or around through Tuyen Quang. Many travellers combine Sapa and Ha Giang in a single trip.
- FROM CAO BANG, BA BE AND THE NORTHEAST — if you are riding the Northeast loop, Ha Giang is usually either the first or the last point of the circuit. We can pick you up and drop you off at either end.

What Ha Giang Experts can do for you
- Book your sleeper bus or limousine, choosing an operator and a departure time that fit the start of your tour.
- Meet you at the drop-off point in Ha Giang and bring you to our office to collect your bike and protective gear and go through the itinerary.
- Store the luggage you are not taking with you for the duration of the tour, and keep your own motorbike safe if you ride up and then hire one of ours for the mountain roads.
- Book your hotel in Ha Giang for the night before and the night after the tour.
