Ha Giang Experts is a small company. We live off roads and off people: a road can be learned by heart, but the person leading the group cannot be replaced by anything. So we do not hire by the season to fill a headcount — we look for people who can ride with us for years.
Roles we usually look for
Motorbike tour leader. You lead groups across the karst plateau and the northern border roads. This is not a job where knowing how to ride is enough. For days at a time you are responsible for the safety of everyone behind you: reading the weather, reading the road surface after rain, and reading the state of each rider in your mirrors. You need a valid A2 licence, real mountain-road experience, English good enough to handle a problem rather than only to say hello, and a first-aid certificate. If you have everything except the certificate, we will arrange the training.
Support driver. The vehicle behind the group carries luggage, spare parts, one broken bike and one rider who has run out of energy. The work asks for a steady hand on narrow roads full of blind bends, the patience to drive slowly all day, and the ability to be in the right place the moment you are called.
Road mechanic. The person fixing a bike in a homestay yard at nine at night so the group can leave on time in the morning. We need someone at home with manual-clutch bikes, enduros and adventure machines, who can diagnose by ear and by hand and not only with a fault reader.
Tour operations. The work behind the scenes: building schedules, holding rooms, obtaining border-area permits, watching the forecast and reshaping a route when it has to change. If you like things written down clearly and checked twice, this is your desk.
Guest care. Answering travellers before departure — sometimes thirty questions for a four-day trip. We value people who answer the question that was actually asked, including when the honest answer is “this route is not right for you”.
Writers, photographers and filmmakers. We work with contributors trip by trip. One condition only: what you record must be a real trip, not a staged one, and the people in the frame must know they are being photographed.
What we look for in a person
- Safety before schedule. Someone willing to say “not this pass today” when the rain comes down hard is exactly who we want, even when that decision disappoints the whole group.
- Respect for the people who live here. We ride through other people’s homes. No walking into a yard uninvited, no camera pushed into a stranger’s face, no bargaining someone down below what their work is worth.
- The willingness to say the hard thing. Report the broken bike, the wrong turn, your own mistake — early and in full. A mistake reported in time can almost always be fixed; a hidden one cannot.
- The capacity to keep learning. Roads change with the season and border rules change with the year. Nobody knows it all at the start, but everyone has to keep learning.
What we give back
Work is by trip or by season depending on the role, on a schedule agreed in advance rather than a call at midnight. Pay, insurance and road expenses are discussed openly and written into an agreement before your first trip — we do not work on spoken promises. New team members ride with an experienced leader for several trips before taking a group of their own.
We charge candidates no fee of any kind, at any stage. If anyone collects recruitment fees, uniform fees or deposits in the name of Ha Giang Experts, that is not us — please tell us immediately.
Working with local partners
Besides hiring, we are always looking for partners: homestays, kitchens, roadside mechanics, local guides for our walking routes. If you run a service in Ha Giang or the surrounding provinces and would like to receive our travellers, get in touch. We pay the agreed price, on time, and we tell our guests your name instead of hiding it.

- Which roads you have ridden, on what kind of machine, and in what conditions.
- Your licence, first-aid certificate or guiding qualification, if you hold them.
- The languages you can actually work in, and how well.
- The months you are available during the year.
No long cover letter is needed. One honest page beats five decorated ones. We read every message and reply within seven working days; if there is no suitable role right now we will keep your details for the next season and we will say so plainly.
