Ha Giang Experts is a travel company based in Ha Giang. We design and run journeys of discovery, by motorbike and by car, across the Dong Van limestone plateau, along the border road and through the mountain provinces of northern Vietnam, extending into Laos, China and long cross-border expeditions. Alongside our tour business we run development projects in the very villages our routes pass through.

Ha Giang is beautiful in a way that photographs badly: sheer rock walls, a pass clinging to a mountainside, the Saturday morning market, the smell of woodsmoke inside a rammed-earth house. What we want is not to bring more people up here, but to bring the right people up here — those willing to travel slowly, sleep in the village and sit down to eat with the family hosting them. It is the only way this beauty will still be intact in ten years, and the only way local people will genuinely make a living from tourism on their own land.
How we go about it
- Our guides are from here. We recruit and train young people from the ethnic minority communities of the region — people who know every climb in the road and every custom, and who answer travellers out of their own lived experience rather than from a script.
- Smaller roads, a slower pace. We avoid the busy highways in favour of village tracks, border roads and dirt trails: safer, and where you still find what travellers actually come looking for.
- Nights in the village. Ha Giang Hub and the network of homestays we build with landowning families mean that most of the value of a trip stays where the trip happens, instead of flowing back to the city.
- Give back more than we take. A share of our revenue goes into concrete village projects: paths, water supply, sanitation, classrooms, and the recovery of songs and dances that had been slipping away.
Our vision
Starting from Ha Giang, we now run journeys across the whole of northeastern and northwestern Vietnam, into Laos, China, Central Asia and beyond. Our aim is not to sell the most tours, but to be the first name a long-distance rider anywhere thinks of when they want to explore the mountains of northern Vietnam and the lands next to them.
Our philosophy
We make our living from the beauty of this landscape and this culture — which means we owe it something. So Ha Giang Experts does not compete on price, does not cut corners on services, and does not push risk onto our guests or onto our local partners. The price we quote is what it actually costs to deliver what we promised. And above all of it comes safety: a trip has only gone well if everyone comes back whole — and wants to come back again.
